The new UK points-based immigration system

Following the introduction of the new points-based immigration system the UK has implemented from the start of 2021, EU and non-EU citizens will be treated equally to work in the UK. Migrants will now have to qualify for a total of 70 points to be considered to apply and work. For example, the following are mandatory characteristics: being offered a job by an approved sponsor would be 20 points. A job at an appropriate skill level would award the applicant with 20 points.  Speaking English at required level would award 10 points.

Tradeable characteristics include salaries, for instance a salary of £22,000 would be 0 points whereas a salary of £25,600 would award them with 20 points. A PhD in a subject relevant to the job would award the applicant with 10 points.
